Jonas Lencer Judges the 2018 Wood Awards
Jonas was delighted to be a judge at this year’s Wood Awards alongside prestigious judges from across the industry.
The shortlisted projects for this year’s awards included Stirling Prize nominated Sultan Nazrin Shah Centre and Storey’s Field Centre & Eddington Nursery, alongside the Woodland Classrooms at Belvue School, The Macallan Distillery & Visitor Experience and Look! Look! Look! Pavilion, to name a few. The full shortlist can be found here.
Jonas loved visiting all the projects, especially Look! Look! Look! with Jim Greaves (Hopkins), Nathan Wheatley (Engenuiti) and Ruth Slavid (architectural journalist) pictured below. He commented ‘this year’s shortlist was exceptionally strong and visiting the projects was enjoyable and educational. Belvue School and Studio Weave created exemplary spaces for outdoor learning and greatly deserved the Judges’ Special Award‘.
Congratulations to all this year’s winning and highly commended projects. The Mears Group Gold Award (winner of winners) and Commercial & Leisure winner was Storey’s Field Community Centre & Nursery by MUMA architects, which Stephen Corbett, Chair of the buildings judging panel described as, ‘the best building rose to the top, for its winning combination of architectural merit, structural ingenuity and flawless execution’.
The Wood Awards aim is to recognise, encourage and promote outstanding design, craftsmanship and installation in the world’s only naturally sustainable material, and winners are chosen based on excellence in architecture and product design.
