Philip Marsh
DirectorBA, DIPARCH, RIBA
Philip Marsh is a founding director of dRMM. He is an industry leader, award winning architect, media commentator and past awards judge. He has 23 years of experience as an expert in residential and civic architecture and urban design, having designed and delivered award-winning residential projects, schools, civic buildings and placemaking projects.

These include significant regeneration projects in London, such as designing the critical first phase housing for Argent at Kings Cross, Faraday House at Battersea Power Station and Trafalgar Place for Lend Lease at the Elephant and Castle (Stirling prize shortlisted 2016).
Education projects include the remodelling of Kingsdale School in Southwark; a £23m transformation project that prefaced the Buildings School for the Future Initiative, and Clapham Manor Primary School; a contemporary addition to a Victorian Board School. Not only did this extension provide the school with much needed extra space, but it also positively transformed the public realm, as recognised by the Mayor of London Planning Award 2010 and the Stirling prize shortlisting 2010.
Philip’s approach to design has always been to question the ‘norm’ and to consider lateral responses in order to elevate the ambition and the possibilities of each project. His design of Wansey St is acclaimed for providing the maximum possible quality for all residents, whatever their tenure and the scheme was awarded BD Public Housing Architect of the Year 2006. The RIBA Judges remarked of Trafalgar Place, “the quality achieved should be an example for future housing developments”. With an outstanding site plan that dedicates over 46% to the public realm, the scheme received the Best New Place to Live Award and the Mayor’s Award for Planning Excellence in 2016.
Philip has an excellent success rate in getting planning permission for the projects he has designed, partly thanks to his understanding of and ability to balance the needs of both commercial developers and local authorities. He recently gained planning for Brill Place, a 25-storey residential tower adjacent to St Pancras station as part of the Central Somers Town Regeneration.
A passionate designer with strong aspirations for London, Philip creates high quality, healthy, accessible and sustainable places. His residential scheme for the White City Television Centre regeneration is described by local residents as, “bold […] lighter in feel and in a talented way it cleverly transitions the mixed architecture of the existing street to the bulkier aspect of the [BBC]. There is a degree of poetry in its existence where none existed before”.
