The Plan’s award in Health category was given to Maggie’s Oldham – a wooden box of surprises with every element carefully designed with the users in mind.
Maggie’s Oldham is the first permanent building constructed from sustainable tulipwood cross-laminated timber; the detailed design brings out the material’s natural beauty. The building is a successful example how the norms of hospital architecture can be reversed and patients can feel hope and humanity in a clinical environment.
