dRMM exhibiting in the ‘Architecture Prototypes and Experiments’ series
We are delighted to be exhibiting in the ‘Architecture Prototypes and Experiments’ series at The Aram Gallery. The exhibition looks at how physical models are used to explore ideas, evoke the feeling of space and help shape and evolve the design process. This is an approach that has always been very close to our hearts, as anyone who has visited our workshop or seen all the models in our studio can testify to!
We chose the ‘Parabolica’ model for the exhibition as it was developed out of a desire to challenge the possibilities of large span engineered timber structures. Part of a commission to design a magnificent sports centre with indoor swimming pool, the expressed timber structure pays homage to the work of Pier Luigi Nervi and Eladio Dieste who both tested the structural limitations of concrete and brickwork respectively, celebrating technological advancement and craft.
This scaled model was produced as an integral part of the design process to explore the unique opportunities inherent in engineered timber.
Parabolica is an attempt to exemplify what outstanding spatial qualities can be achieved when both architecture and the structural integrity of engineered timber are developed in parallel.
We are exhibiting alongside other innovative, design led practices including Adjaye Associates, Piercy & Company and Mary Duggan Architects.
The exhibition is running from the 2nd August until the 1st September 2018 at The Aram Gallery in Covent Garden, for more information or to visit the exhibition go to https://www.thearamgallery.org/next
