Planning approval has been granted for dRMM’s Brill Place tower, a critical component of Camden’s ambitious Community Investment Programme (CIP) enabling delivery of a new primary school, community facilities, affordable homes and enhanced public open space.

The slender 25 storey building is composed of paired micro-towers creating a slim profile and minimal footprint; a ‘light touch’ approach. A double height transparent plinth minimises visual impact on Brill Place and allows views through into the landscaped spaces beyond.

The proposed typology reconciles the conflicting constraints of St Pancras Station, the Francis Crick Institute and the adjacent Cooper’s Lane Estate and minimises overshadowing of open space and neighbouring properties. All apartments are double or triple aspect with panoramic views of Somers Town and across central London. The stepped plan arrangement allows all units to benefit from views north into the greenery of Purchese Street Open Space.

The highly articulated façade is composed of balconies, projecting window bays and winter-gardens; an expression of the internal organisation. Sliding screens provide solar control, privacy and activation to the façade. The glazed façade reflects trees and sky allowing the building to de-materialise. An elegant ‘scissor’ form of inclined roof planes defines the top of the tower. Its distinctive profile will create a new local landmark and will announce the gateway to the rejuvenated public open spaces of Central Somers Town.
