dRMM are delighted to be shortlisted for the Homerton College competition to design the new centrepiece dining hall.
Homerton College, a constituent College of the University of Cambridge, has announced the five firms shortlisted in the competition to design an emblematic £7 million centrepiece building to house a 300-person dining hall for the school. 155 practices submitted proposals to the competition, and the five finalists were selected from a longlist of 24.
dRMM are shortlisted alongside Caruso St John Architects, Feilden Fowles, Hall McKnight, and Walters & Cohen Architects. David Hamilton, Director of Projects at Malcolm Reading Consultants, said “What made the difference between reaching the long-list and the shortlist? It came down to an understanding of, and empathy with, the client as an institution, a genuine focus on working in collaboration and an initial response that emphasised both the inspirational and the practical.”
The finalists’ concept designs will be exhibited in the College during December 2016 and into the early New Year. The winning team is expected to be announced in early 2017.
Construction for the 1,400 sqm project is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2018.
